Choices

CHOICE. What does it mean? Is there a choice when we can’t do anything about it? Do we make our choices in life, or does life make them for us?

Since we were little our whole life’s been about the quest for something or someone that could change it.Do we see the changes coming? Do we accept them?
Growing up we didn’t think about the consequences of our decisions, we just chose between something we wanted and something we didn’t; but as we get older, making a choice gets much more dangerous. It isn’t about orange or apple juice anymore, sometimes it’s about life and death… And how do we get to choose between those two? If we choose death we won’t be able to carry on with our lives, but if we choose life we’ll have to keep on living.
Thing is, we almost never know whether our choices are right or wrong, but we choose anyway. Do we choose them because we think it’s right or because we think we don’t have another choice?

Often we don’t even think about right and wrong, good or bad; we just make the decision of what we think is best for us, even if it’s the wrong decision: it’s about what we want, and we get to make the decisions of what’s best for us. Because, what if we never chose between anything? Would we still be living the same life we’re living now? Would fate decide for us? Or would we be in a complete different place by now?
Is there even any such thing as fate?

Maybe it is all written in the stars, maybe we were destined to be the way we are…and maybe our choices are there to teach us and make us stronger for when fate comes in.
Making a choice always means leaving something else behind: every choice is a piece of who we are, and every decision leads to what we will eventually become.

But what if we make a mistake by choosing wrong? Do we miss our fate?

"That's the beauty of what actors do, that you only have yourself as a resource. And so the trick is to find something in them that you connect to somewhere. And with every single one of my characters, I have to find something that I really understand and ultimately believe"

(Julianne Moore)
Maurice Bendrix: I'm jealous of this stocking.
Sarah Miles: Why?
Maurice Bendrix: Because it does what I can't. Kisses your whole leg. And I'm jealous of this button.
Sarah Miles: Poor, innocent button.
Maurice Bendrix: It's not innocent at all. It's with you all day. I'm not.
Sarah Miles: I suppose you're jealous of my shoes?
Maurice Bendrix: Yes.
Sarah Miles: Why?
Maurice Bendrix: Because they'll take you away from me.

SATC

“When you're young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun. Then, you grow up and learn to be cautious. You could break a bone or a heart. You look before you leap and sometimes you don't leap at all because there's not always someone there to catch you. And in life, there's no safety net. When did it stop being fun and start being scary?”

Happily ever after

From early on we've been told that someday a prince is gonna come to save us from all danger and make us live happily ever after...
Our childhood memories are filled with poor little women who needed to be saved by strong, brave fellas who made their lives OH SO MUCH BETTER!

Think about it: what happened to the Sleeping Beauty? She pricked her finger and went into coma, no one could help her, because God forbid the little fairies die under a flyswatter! Cinderella, after being stupid enough to lose her shoe, got locked into a closet and tried to get out with the help of her friends the rats. And don't even get me started on Snowhite! Eating an apple from a strange old lady can only mean trouble, and pretending to be saved by the 7 seven dwarfs? Even more trouble!
Just let me remind you the names of the 7 dwarfs:
- Dopey(too much crack, maybe?)
- Happy(Marihuana?)
- Grumpy (who's gonna ask HIM for a favour?)
- Doc (one of the dwarfs was a doctor????Too bad he didn't know how to cure snowhite's food poisoning!)
- Bashful (Never mind!)
- Sneezy (with all the dust and flowers he could've totally saved her!)
- Sleepy (no comments)

What happens at the end of all those tales? The handsome fella arrives with a white horse and with just one kiss he saves the world and makes the ladies wake up! Well, with a kiss or a shoe, but who am I to judge Cinderella?

Prince saves princess (or housemaid) and they live happily ever after.

THE END

Yeah, but they don't tell us what happened after THE END: our princess gets pregnant, washes the dishes and sweeps the floor while her prince is out there screwing his secretary! Hey, Snowy, where's your prince? Oh, he's on a business trip...
She tries to have a nice conversation with her neighbour while she thinks: man, I was such an idiot lying in the glass box and wating for him, I could have asked for some crack from Dopey, that would've woken me up! That way I could've get it over and done with by myself, instead of waiting for that selfish little man!

So that's the thing about fairytales, they never tell us the whole story, and life doesn't happen that way; because what if we never find Prince Charming? Will we lay in the glass box forever?
